FAQs

For how long should I wear the AmnioSense™?

You should wear the AmnioSense™ liner until you feel wetness – maximum 12 hours.

Why should patients only use AmnioSense™ for 12 hours?

We recommend using the AmnioSense™ up to 12 hours as it is a general recommendation for panty liners, the risk is that the panty liner will be a platform for bacterial growth. The patient can dispose of one AmnioSenseTM after 12 hours and then apply a fresh one, as she would do for any standard panty liner.

When should I use AmnioSense™?

It is recommended to wear the AmnioSense™ whenever you sense an unidentified wetness, in order to distinguish amniotic fluid leakage from urine incontinence, or whenever your doctor or midwife suspects you may be at a higher than normal risk level for amniotic fluid leak.

Why is it important to know if I have an amniotic fluid leak?

Leakage of the amniotic fluid is very risky for the foetus and the mother. Amniotic fluid leak (caused by a ruptured membrane) can increase the risk of infection to both you and your foetus because it provides a way for bacteria to enter the amniotic sac.

What do I do if the results are negative?

If you get a negative result – meaning that your AmnioSense™ liner did not change colour or initially stained blue or green but then the colour faded back to yellow during the 15 minute drying period – the fluid leak that you sense is probably not amniotic fluid and could be urine, which is common during pregnancy.

If you continue to experience vaginal wetness, apply a new AmnioSense™ liner to repeat the test or contact your health care provider.

For how long does the colour remain stable?

The colour change remains stable for at least 2 hours.

Can I take the AmnioSense™ liner and show it to my midwife or doctor?

Yes. The colour change in cases of amniotic fluid leak remains stable for more at least 2 hours. If you intend to show the indicating result to your doctor, you can bring the AmnioSense™ liner. It may assist your doctor if you also take along the explanatory leaflet.

Is the AmnioSense™ liner available in different sizes?

Currently, it is only available in one size – NORMAL.

Can the AmnioSense™ liner replace a doctor's examination?

The test provides amniotic leak detection in cases where a doctor is not present. It is designed for home monitoring and continuous monitoring. If you have any concerns at all, please seek medical help with your midwife or doctor.

Where should I store my pack of AmnioSense™?

You should keep the pack in a dry place at room temperature. In order to avoid contamination, the AmnioSense™ liners must remain sealed until opened for use.

Is there any specific way to wear the AmnioSense™ diagnostic panty liner?

Wear the AmnioSense™ liner just as you would any normal hygienic panty liner.

How does AmnioSense™ work?

AmnioSense™ changes colours immediately upon any contact with amniotic fluid. When the AmnioSense™ diagnostic liner comes in contact with amniotic fluid it changes colour to blue and/or green. This stain remains stable after 15 minutes of drying time. The positive blue-green colour change creates a darker stain that is easily observed over the yellow background.

Why do I need to wait 15 minutes before reading the result?

The tester liner may initially turn blue and/or green before fading back to yellow within 15 minutes. This is because the test undergoes two steps; firstly it detects fluid by testing the pH (acidity) levels, secondly it checks for ammonia levels. It is therefore important to wait the full 15 minutes to interpret the final result.

Is the AmnioSense™™ liner suitable for women with urine incontinence?

Yes. The AmnioSense™ diagnostic liner may change its colour to green or blue and fade back to yellow whenever the fluid that contacts the indicator is urine. This reverse action occurs during 15 minutes after you remove the pad.

What should I do after I detect the AmnioSense™ liner is wet?

Remove the AmnioSense™ panty liner and wait 15 minutes to see the colour.

When is it recommended to DELAY the use of the AmnioSense™?

It is recommended to delay performing the test if you conducted sexual intercourse or used vaginal douching within the last 12 hours.
